Somatic Yoga is a therapeutic form of embodied movement for everyone! It integrates the science of neuromuscular retraining with body prayer consciousness. The natural state of the human body is to be in motion. First person experience of motion can have a positive impact on muscle coordination, emotional self-regulation and pranic life-force flow. Whether it be from injury or long held unconscious muscle patterns, we hold discomfort in the body in the form of contractive reflexes and emotions.
This playful practice uses meditative motions to investigate the body while moving to the breath. It can release old patterns and hidden tension by regaining control of the muscles, and encourages you to make friends with thoughts and emotions.
Classes are typically done seated or lying down, and may incorporate standing movements. If you experience chronic pain, illness, or fatigue, or if you just want to improve your body-brain communication to create greater comfort or excel in your sport, this style of yoga is for you. The awareness is on the internal experience and re-educating muscles toward fluid body movement. There is also emphasis placed on the energetic benefits and working with prana (life-force energy).
Classes take place on zoom. Please have the follow props available: a strap, 2 blocks, blankets and pillows, an 8"-12" slo-mo or gertie ball, tennis balls or other small balls with different textures and densities.
